Samhain: Samhain, also known as Hallow’s Eve is observed and celebrated on October 31st & November 1st. Samhain translates to Summer’s End and it is the celebration of the last harvest as well as an honoring of our ancestors and festival of the Dead. Samhain is the Pagan new year & beginning of the dark season. While days are officially shorter and the weather officially much cooler, this is also a time we prepare for the less abundant upcoming season and take stock of what we have. Samhain is also when the veil is thinnest between the worlds of the physical and spiritual and customs are to welcome in the ancestors, offer respect to the dead, and to take measures to protect from evil spirits. Samhain is the official season that brings up the concept of death before rebirth, the occult, and shadow work.

To celebrate Samhain, host a “dumb supper” or a dinner to honor your ancestors, have a bonfire, and do some grounding and protective magic. Create an ancestor altar, carve jack-o-lanterns, dress up in costumes (which prior was used to allow mingling with the spirit realm without being recognized), and take time to reflect and practice some shadow work. Time for solitude during this Sabbat is also important as a way to connect with your guides and your own intuition.
